Rabbi Harold S. Kushner ...

When Bad Things Happen To Good People

Adapted from Schocken Books, 1981 edition.

Page 28.

"Sometimes, because our souls yearn for justice, because we so desperately want to believe that God will be fair to us, we fasten our hopes on the idea that life in this world is not the only reality.

"Somewhere beyond this life is another world where the last shall be first and those whose lives were cut short here on earth will be reunited with those they loved and will spend eternity with them.

"Neither I nor any other living person can know anything about the reality of that hope.

"We know that our physical bodies decay after we die.

"I for one believe that the part of us which is not physical, the part that we call the soul or personality, does not and cannot die."

Overall, I think this is an excellent book, but that Rabbi Kushner has a real struggle to make sense of what perhaps we just might call a "post - Biblical Jewish World - view."

Maybe that's just one more reason why a Jew Named Jesus Christ was sent down here by His Father, huh ?

But!

I'm not belittling Rabbi Kushner.

Over all, I personally think he did a heck of a good job struggling with all these issues never the less.
