"Switzerland: SSPX not ready to accept Vatican II"

"Bishop Fellay responds to Vatican"

Adapted from The Catholic World Report, May 2009.

"In an interview with a Swiss newspaper, Bishop Bernard Fellay has commented on the [Vatican] Secretariat of State's February 4 statement that: a full recognition of the Second Vatican Council and the magisterium of Popes John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, John Paul II and Benedict XVI himself is an indispensable condition from any future recognition of the Society of Saint Pius X.

"Asked whether the Society is prepared to recognize the second Vatican Council, Bishop Fellay said, No. The Vatican has acknowledged the need for preliminary talks aimed at dealing with basic issues which stem from the Second Vatican Council. Making the acceptance of the council a preliminary condition is putting the cart before the horse.

'[s]aid Bishop Fellay, The aftermath of the council has been to empty seminaries, convents, and churches. Thousands of priests have left their orders and millions of faithful have stopped being practicing Catholics and have joined sects. If these are the fruits of the council, they're strange indeed."

Sounds good, Excellency! :)

Sad but true, however, is the simple fact that neither you nor your Society has been particularly successful -- or at least not here in America -- in cleaning up some of your own basic issues.

Such basic issues as arise from the acts of at least some of your own priests and seminarians and brothers related to overall homosexual hanky - panky, like that going on at Society Schools like the one we volunteered at in El Paso between 2002 and 2003 .

Plus, likewise on the part of some of your individual priests and brothers at least, such basic issues as publicly flaunting woman - hating theological heresies right out of the Middle Ages!

Other than those two little items, we can still wish you luck! :)
