Top Four UTEP SGA Election Write - in Candidates:

"Obama, Porfirio Diaz, Nobody and Al Coholic"

Source: Unsigned editorial, but we suspect it's written by Ms. Adriana Gómez Licón -- the UTEP Prospector's Editor - in - Chief.

This very week's edition of Tuesday April 14, 2009.

Ms. Licón lays it on us regarding this most recent UTEP Student Government Association elections.

¡Adelante, Adriana!

"While the problem of a close election is not the fault of the election process, it brings to mind a more troubling issue -- the lack of student participation.

"Only 3,133 students voted in this year's election, slightly more than 10 percent of the student population.

"Also many students voted for such people as Obama, Porfirio Diaz, Nobody and Al Coholic in the write - in positions.

"This example of student apathy has been the case for several years.

"Throw in the impeachment of of senator - at - large Roger Diaz, who was absent from several SGA meetings, and you can see why students are indifferent about anything close to the idea of student government..."

You bet, Adriana!

Right - on!

Especially when you add to all this the most recent up - dates on UTEP Freshman Student Failure to Graduate in Four Years Rate, which is now stuck at a cool 98%!!
