Rev. Fr. Don Kloster reveals himself to be, like the Rev. Fr. Clay Hunt III, likewise a Diocesan Proponent of Muscular Christianity!
So?
Just what is it, in the first place?
Wikipedia: "Muscular Christianity is a term for a movement during the Victorian era which stressed the need for energetic Christian activism in combination with an ideal of vigorous masculinity. .."
Thus:
Football fan -- and ex - player -- Father Don Kloster backs Texas Tech coach against hostile media, says to the San Antonio EXPRESS NEWS [December 31, 2009] something more or less to the effect that: "Everyone needs to take a chill pill!"
As Wikipedia's article on Muscular Christianity puts it, quoting English author Charles Kingsley: games conduce not merely to physical but to moral health...
Perhaps more to the point in this Muscular Christianity business, at least in its broadest possible sense, is its portrayal by the character of a clergyman in Edward Bulwer Lytton's novel, Kenelm Chillingly.
This lively reverend assists the novel's hero by obligingly tracing Muscular Christianity's origin [if we're remembering it right! ] to a certain legendary medieval French knight, who was violently fed - up with the lack luster performance of Catholic Christian apologists in a public dispute over religion with more knowledgeable non - Christian representatives, perhaps even Jews!
Seeing this, the old knight loses it and drawing his sword [or maybe it was just his strong right fist!], trashes the would - be victors who were at the point of utterly triumphing over the wishy - washy Christians.
And thus turning the tide in a public religious dispute.
But!
In his very own theological manner. :)
