Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua & UTEP.

Way back in 1995?

It was only three miles on foot from the old Hotel Sylvia to the UTEP College of Education Building...:)

"It is our problem -- now let's do something."

And The UTEP Prospector's Ms. Vanessa Juarez has today's story.

¡Adelante, Vanessa!

"I'm just real frustrated and I can't shake the feeling.

"Initially, I thought it was the oppressive summer humidity or the hot breeze-less July days that were getting to me, but this past weekend I attended the art exhibition Peace of Art: Design for Change and realized that annoying, nagging feeling had more to do with la violencia in our sister city than the heat.

"With some reflection.

"I don't think I'm the only young adult who nearly comes out of their skin when they hear other people saying that Cd. Juarez isn't our problem.

"People are being murdered daily less than 30 [sic.] miles from us and it's not our problem?

"When bullets from Cd. Juárez hit the side of City Hall there seemed to be a small outcry, from a portion of the city, for about a day.

"At the same time, what can we do anyway?

"For those of us who feel powerless and idle, do something to show support for the innocent citizens of Cd. Juárez, whether that be saying a prayer, making a piece of art or reaching into your wallets.

"It really is the best we can do..."

Good points, Vanessa!

¡Ora, UTEP!

¡Ora, MEChA!

¡Adelante, DESTINO!
