¡El Cajónero!-- y / o -- ¡El Vengador!

Luaran Paine's:

"The Legend of El Cajónero a.k.a. The Undertaker."

The mysterious "Uomo Finito" is finally confronted by a fascinated Peralta, New Mexico marshal Frank Butler, in the latter's office!

Frank asks Uomo Finito:

"...You are El Cajónero?"

"[The] big Mexican said, sort of, and leaned forward, moving on the bench for the first time..."

Then, Uomo Finito speaks!

"Frank, a long time ago when my grandfather was a young man, the Mexican government would not send soldiers to protect people from Indians, and it refused to allow anyone out here to own guns.

"So they made bows and arrows.

"But they were no match for the Indians. and got slaughtered.

"My grandfather bought guns from the Comancheros, the traders who cared nothing for anyone, only money and sometimes horses and cattle in trade.

"My grandfather was ready when the Comanche came..."

A fine, old - fashioned example of UTEP English Department - level Southwestern Literature! :)
