"DEL RIO, Texas -- U.S. Border Patrol agents, assigned to the Brackettville Station, seized more than 300 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of more than $246,000 on Tuesday -- rescuing a suspected drug smuggler in the process..

"Brackettville Station agents observed several individuals attempting to transport several duffel bags across a large irrigation canal near Del Rio.

"As agents approached them, one of the subjects jumped into the canal in an attempt to avoid apprehension.

"An agent dove into the water as he yelled for help and was able to keep him from drowning as other agents formed a human chain pulling them both to safety.

"The subject was taken to Val Verde Regional Medical Center where he was treated for water inhalation and was later released

"The subject along with three others and the marijuana were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration [DEA]...''
