As Father Brian Harrison, O.S. whimsically reminds us:

"History shows many examples of Popes --

"even very holy Popes ---

"who have made unwise administrative or disciplinary decisions ..."

Snippets from his letter to The Wanderer Catholic newspaper. Thursday, March 29, 2012.

AS HE CONTINUES:

"Pope Innocent IV, for instance, introduced torture into the medieval Inquisition's procedures; and Pope St. Pius V's Bull declaring Queen Elizabeth I of England deposed from office not only failed to unseat that monarch, but gave her the perfect pretext for persecuting Catholics more fiercely than ever as being disloyal..."

HIS POINT??

"The Church's changeable administrative, liturgical, and other disciplinary decisions can be prudent, wise or unwise; and Catholics are not required to agree with all of them ...."

Good points, Padre! :)
