"Avoiding the next Tsunami"
"A new scandal looms over the Church: the lack of sound business practices.
"The Church must act quickly to stem the tide."
Yes! Even in Brackettville, heh! heh!
'Cause anytime you "find" a cool $30, 000 surplus in parish funds, you're participating in something that can very well lead to some real legal issues in the future!
Especially for you...
You bet!
Adapted from: "The Catholic World Report," June 2008. By Fr. Jerry J. Pokorsky.
"Some have suggested that the next wave of scandal in the Church will be financial.
"Based on news reports and personal observations, it sems to me that the wave has already arrived."
He then gives us this zinger of a quote, from The Free - Lance Star, February 22, 2008, Fredericksburg, Virginia:
"The former Catholic priest who embezzled money from two Louisa County churches will spend fie years in prison.
"Despite recomendations for less time from Rodney Rodis' defense attorney, as well as from federal prosecutors, Judge Richard L. Williams sentenced the 51 - year - old to 63 months in prison, with credit for time served.
"He was also ordered to pay about $590,000 to the Catholic diocese of Virginia [sic]."
