"Bishop John Thattumkal of Cochin insisted that his relationship toward the young woman is purely paternal [ ¡Guau! Wow! :) ], but the adoption led critics to say that the bishop was creating a scandal.

"Following an investigation conducted by the papal nuncio and the metropolitan bishop, on October 24 Pope Benedict suspended Bishop Thattumkal.

"Bishop Thattumkal remains in his diocese, at a house of his religious order."
