UTEP's Mr. Isaac Perez: "Class teaches how to Help America Vote"

¡Ora, MEChA! ¡Ora, UTEP! ¡Adelante, DESTINO!

Adapted from: The UTEP Prospector. "Assayer of Student Opinion," July 2, 2008.

Mr. Perez starts us off with this quote from that legendary UTEP assistant professor of of political science, Tony Payan:

"Only 50 percent of American citizens vote in a presidential election.

"Only about 25 percent vote in the mid - term elections (elections that occur between presidential elections).

"In El Paso, especially, even less people vote, yes, America needs help voting."

As Mr. Perez now tells us:

"In November 2006, Payan and other professors in the political science department helped the Center for Civic Engagement recruit more than 70 bilingual UTEP students to assist as poll workers in the mid - term elections.

"The program, led by the center, was funded by a grant by the federal government in response to the request made by two UTEP students, who wrote a letter asking for support for the program..."

A good, read, Señor Licenciado !
