"Born: May 21, 1912 in Calarugda, Spain.
"Died: Thursday, January 15, 2009 in San Antonio, Texas.
"Funeral Mass: Tuesday, January 20th at St. Ann's Church.
"Burial [will be]: Thursday. January 22th at the Dominican Friars Cemetery in Ponchatoula, La.
"The young man was ordained in 1936 and joined the Spanish Army, traveling to Morocco as part of his military service.
"He served as a chaplain during the Spanish Civil War [1936 - 1939] and finished his theological studies in Salamanca.
"In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified some of Peñas seminary classmates, professors and superiors who were among the nearly 500 clergy killed in the Spanish Civil War [1936 - 1939]
"Beatification is the first step toward their possible elevation to sainthood.
"[He] ministered to [the] local Hispanic community [starting in] 1995..."
