The UTEP Prospector Two Years Ago!!

Back when Ms. María Adriana Mendoza had the story:

"Black Panther leader educates students"

The UTEP Prospector, February 7, 2007.

"As part of this year's [2007] Black History Month celebration, Ms. Elaine Brown, the first woman to lead the Black Panther Party spoke last Thursday at the Tomás Rivera Conference Center.

"Speaking of the party's history and significance, Brown began by discussing the major events of the party's history since former Black Panther Party leader and founder Mr. Huey Newton.

"She also addressed some crucial points in the history of the United States.

"[S]aid Brown after a few jokes over the war in Iraq, It is important to know the real Black history. The history of this country is the history of African Americans and of slavery. I want to fill gaps on information students get in schools about the Black's role and experiences which are not covered in the texts.

"The UTEP African American Studies program is celebrating 10 years at UTEP.

"2007 is also the 40th anniversary of the Black Panther Party, which coincides with the 60th anniversary of Dr. John Hope Franklin's From Slavery To Freedom, an important book on African American History.."

'Way to go, María Adriana Mendoza; Right - on Sister Elaine!!

A pretty good read even two years and two days later....:)
