"UGANDA: Archbishop receives death threats"

Rebels resent peace efforts

"Archbishop John Baptist Odama of Gulu, Uganda, has revealed that he has received death threats from leaders of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) because of his public statements urging the rebels to end their struggle against the government.

"The archbishop said that he declined government protection because of his concern for the people of his region.

"[H]e told the Catholic News Service [CNS] If I am not safe, they are not safe."
