"I thought it would be great to have a Queer Prom a la the Sex and the City episode"

"All UTEP students who are queer friendly will have the chance to be awarded the scholarship"

UTEP's Mr. Jesus Smith shares his revolutionary thoughts on the vital questions of today!

Adapted from Mr. Smith's editorial "Enjoy silence week" in The UTEP Prospector. Tuesday, April 28, 2009.

"On May 1 from 6 - 8 p.m. the Rainbow Miner Initiative [RMI] will host an interactive, non - judgmental presentation called Homophobia.

"To complete the week, I decided a celebration was in need and I thought it would be great to have a Queer Prom a la the Sex and the City episode.

"I thought there wasn't a more perfect way to show our support for equality then to celebrate same - sex love with the prom and then take the proceeds from ticket sales and give them back to the community in the form of a LGBT and straight ally scholarship, hosted through the RMI.

"All UTEP students who are LGBT or straight and queer friendly will have the chance to be awarded the scholarship."
