"Chaplains Share Duties in Afghanistan"

This snippet randomly adapted from the Jesuit magazine America. August 31 - September 7, 2009.

"On an August evening in Afghanistan, the Rev. Mirek Jordanek, a Czech army chaplain, celebrated Mass in his limited English.

"A Protestant chaplain preached the homily at the weekend Mass.

"[S]aid the Rev. Brent Sanders, the Protestant chaplain One day, we will see him face to face. Let us be ready."

When it comes to the availability of Catholic chaplains for the 10th Mountain Division, things are bad.

"Although one out of five U.S. soldiers is Catholic, there are just 100 Catholic chaplains for the entire U.S. Army.

"[S]aid the Rev. Bradley West, a Baptist assigned to the 10th Mountain Division, We are very short. Especially when we deploy, many soldiers will not see a priest the whole time, especially the guys out at command outposts ..."

Good point, Reverend...:)

"Students prepare to spend on textbooks"

This feature by UTEP Prospector's Ms. Natalia Quiroz starts off Fall Semester 2009 right!

¡Adelante, Natalia!

Adapted from the Original Online Issue Date of: 8/25/09.

"With the summer season ending, students are gearing up for class by acquiring textbooks and supplies for the beginning of the fall term.

"However, many students are going for more cost - effective options with their back - to school shopping due to the recent economic downturn.

"Victor Pacheco, assistant vice president for business affairs, said although the UTEP Bookstore is stocked with new and used textbooks for the fall semester, there has been a recent drop in new textbooks sales.

"Pacheco said Looking at individual goods that impact students the most, used textbook sales are significantly up 19 percent, new textbook sales are down 10 percent and clothing / apparel sales are up 5 percent. Used textbook sales have increased because more are being stocked at the bookstore and because they are less expensive than new textbooks..."

Way to go, Natalia!

Q: "I am, unfortunately, homosexual and have drifted away from the Church..."

Fr. Vincent Serpa is reassuring:

"You speak with the Lord frequently."

"Now, listen to Him."

"He has allowed you to experience this cross."

A random snippet adapted from: The Catholic magazine This Rock, September / October, 2009.

As Father Serpa assures this pious and honest individual, "All you need to do is go to confession and live a chaste, devout life.

"Offer him all your homosexual tendencies.

"Make an oblation of them.

"Allow him [Jesus Christ] to be your life companion.

"Your life is replete with meaning.

"You have the gift of faith that he has deliberately given you.

"Make the most of it!

"I'd suggest that [you avail yourself of] the materials and ministry of Courage: http: // couragerc.net.

"Donna," advertising rep for the Catholic newspaper, Our Sunday Visitor.

This morning she spoke with us about current OSV policy re Medjugorje adds.

When asked by phone if OSV was no longer taking adds for Medjurgorje adds, Donna explained two(2) things:

Yes! Our Sunday Visitor still takes those kind of adds.

But!

No!

The adds can't use the word "pilgrimage to Medjugorje," as the Church hasn't yet approved.

Thus, any such adds must use some such term as "tour to Medjugorje."

So, what's all this about?! :)

"What it's all about" is this:

Any non - Catholic Christian brother or sister here in Brackettville who wants to watch a documentary called Visions on Demand on the undisputed truth linking the demoniacally - inspired spiritual corruption of Medjugorje to the plain old time financial corruption that started with Original Sin as an Equal Opportunity Employer needs only to ask to borrow a VCR or DVD from any Catholic brother or sister of Saint Mary Magdalene's Catholic Parish who has a copy to lend out.

And thus leave themselves free to ask any number of other Catholic friends and fellow students: Why are your poor old grandparents, etc. still going along with this vicious fraud?

'Cause, as we've been saying since August 2007 regarding the ongoing horrendous scandals in today's Catholic Church, in relation to our devote non - Catholic sisters and brothers:

"Aren't They Entitled To The Truth, Too?"

Adapted from: The Catholic World Report, July 2009. Quoted at the very beginning of R. Michael Dunnigan's article "The Double Life and the Undivided Heart."

Archbishop O'Brien's succinct analysis:

"[Maciel] was a man with an entrepreneurial genius who, by systematic deception and duplicity, used our faith to manipulate others for his own selfish ends."

Contemporary African Catholic spirituality recognizes the ongoing malignant role of evil spirits.

Spiritually bankrupt "Modernist" gray haired Catholic missionaries in Africa may or may not!

Adapted likewise from The Catholic World Report, August / September 2009.

Could what follows be based on a peculiarly Nigerian perspective?

"Father Hebert who spent 20 years in Nigeria as a missionary...."

Hence in places like Nigeria:

"The proper approach is to begin with this evil spirit..."

We treat the problem as a real one...

"AFRICA

"The number of Catholics in Africa grew from two million in 1900 to 165 million at the end of 2007.

""[S]ays Florida - based Father Joseph Hebert, M. Afr., who spent 20 years in Nigeria as a missionary and has observed a change of leadership taking place as Africans take charge of missionary activities, God bless those missionaries who spent themselves transmitting the faith to Africans..."

We now get to hear what Father Herbert has to tell The Catholic World Report (CWR) about the glaring difference between the attitudes of aging modernist European - American missionaries and real - deal native African (or here most likely Nigerian) Catholic priests regarding the everyday reality of demonic spirits.

In Father Herbert's own words:

"In some cases, the [African] faithful placed more confidence in those foreign missionaries than in their own indigenous priests an dreligious.

"As a whole, however, Africans are like all other people.

"They more at ease with their own kind.

"Their own (priests and religious) are in a much better position to understand them, their problems, their mentalities, their needs, their weaknesses and strengths.

"A small example:

"At a meeting of priests -- both foreign missionaries and indigenous priests -- one of the local {most likely Nigerian] priests stood up to explain that when an elderly woman comes to the priest [and says] she is tormented by an evil spirit, the proper approach is to begin with this evil spirit and then proceed with the suffering of this woman.

"We do not begin by preaching to her about imaginative dreams, hallucinations, superstitions, etc.

"We treat the problem as a real one..."

Nigeria's Catholic Church kicks a*s*s on America's:

2004 - 2007 = 601,392 Adult Baptisms for our African brothers and sisters of Nigeria.

Versus

2004 - 2007 = 309,196 -- for the U.S.A. American (ha, ha!) Catholic Church.

"[S]aid Ofelia Dominguez, director of Union Services, The bookstore has moved out and with that we've had the opportunity to examine what we want to bring in for the students.

"Invitan a colecta diocesana"

Theology on Tap
at the Blue Star Brewery!!

"Chastity and abstinence, love and lust discussed by campus minister at TOT"

"A packed house -- all 90 of them ? "

"[A]t the
Blue Star Brewery came to hear John Leon campus minister July 16"

Randomly adapted snippets from Katherine Jass López's rocke'em sock'em take no prisoners article in the current issue of Today's Catholic, July 31, 2009.

"SAN ANTONIO --
Young Adults [YA's] tend to ponder many questions about their love life: Who will I marry, or will I even marry, when is the right time to get married, will I have children?

"But before tackling those questions, many wonder what is love and will I ever find it.

"YA's of the archdiocese took time to explore these questions at Theology on Tap [TOT], July 16 at Blue Star Brewery.

"John Leon, Religion Department chair and campus minister at St. Anthony Catholic High School, got the attention of over 90 participants by asking how many of them like sex.

'[H]e said, Everybody is going to have sex and there is only one rule to that that tells you when you can have sex -- that rule is marriage. The problem is society has made sex recreational [Take a bow, John Calvin! And his defense team!] and we need to understand what God's plan is and why God wants us to keep sex in marriage.

"[S]aid Beatriz Alvizo, young adult from St. Matthew Church, I loved it because we all have the same questions and this gathering provided an opportunity to become more informed on what our faith teaches about love and marriage in a relaxed atmosphere."

Seriously, folks, overall? The entire article is a pretty darn good read....:)

Does Canada's Human Rights Commission (HRC) ??!!

Equal
Josef Goebbel's Ministry of Propaganda and National Enlightenment?! :)

Yes!

If we:

Substitute Catholics for Jews...

"When a gay activist complained, Fr. de Valk was charged with promoting
extreme hatred and contempt..."

F. Douglas Kneibert's latest:

"Are the Dark Clouds of Persecution Beginning to Gather?"

Adapted from his article by that name in the New Oxford Review. July - August 2009.

"Substitute Catholics for Jews... The silencing of dissenting voices is always one of the first steps taken by authoritarian governments."

"In that respect, what has been happening north of the border is of special interest today, where the so - called Canadian Human Rights Commission (HRC) has been running roughshod over free speech and religious rights -- all in the name of tolerance.

"But it is an intolerant tolerance.

"Consider the case of Fr. Alphonse de Valk, who wrote an article in the Canadian Catholic Insight magazine defending Church teaching on homosexuality.

"When a gay activist complained to the HRC, Fr. de Valk was charged with promoting extreme hatred and contempt towards homosexuals.

"Although the charges were eventually dropped, the accused was forced to spend several thousand dollars in legal defense fees, not to mention suffering the disruption of his life."

And Alberta's Human Rights Tribunal??!!

It really stomps on non - Catholic Christians!

"The Rev. Stephen Boisson, an evangelical pastor was not so fortunate.

"His letter to the editor of a Canadian newspaper , in which he presented the biblical teaching on homosexuality and criticized societal inroads made by gay activists, cost him dearly.

"Besides fining him $5,000 for a hate crime and ordering him to apologize to the gay complainant, the Alberta Human Rights Tribunal fixed a firm muzzle on his free - speech rights.

"Because we could be seeing something similar in this country, the Tribunal's order is worth quoting in full: Mr. Boisson and The Concerned Christian Coalition Inc. shall cease publishing in newspapers, by e - mail, on the radio, in public speeches, or on the Internet ... disparaging remarks about gays and homosexuals ... Further, all disparaging remarks ... are directed to be removed from current Web sites..."

My, my --- oh! My! :)
