January 31. Feast Day of Saint John Bosco -- Priest.

31 de Enero. San Juan Bosco -- Presbítero.

"[O]ne who knowingly and deliberately votes for a candidate who is on record as supporting...

... the killing of unborn babies ...

... is guilty of mortal sin ..."

James J. Drummey's "Catholic Replies."
In The Wanderer. Thursday, January 24, 2013.

"Q. Is a priest obligated before an election to tell his congregation that they must not vote for pro-abortion candidates?

"Is it a mortal sin to vote for such candidates?

"A. As the moral leader of his parishioners, a priest is obligated to steer them away from cooperation in evil, whether it's abortion, prostitution, adultery, pornography, racism, or sexual abuse of children.

"Abortion is intrinsically evil, and no Catholic may vote for a  political  candidate  who supports an intrinsic evil.

"By voting for such a candidate, a Catholic makes himself complicit in the abortions that the election of this candidate will make possible.

"Therefore, one who knowingly and deliberately votes for a political candidate who is on record as supporting the killing of unborn babies cooperates in that evil and is guilty of mortal sin ..."
Interesting, huh? :)

Asia Bibi and Barbara Castro Garcia:
Two heroic young women!

Now among Inside The Vatican magazine's
"Top Ten People of 2012"

As excerpted by The Wanderer. Thursday, January 24, 2013.

"This Spanish mother died after postponing cancer treatments, in order to save her unborn baby from possible harm.

"Her child, Barbarita, was born in 2010.

"But Barbara's cancer flared up immediately after she gave birth, leading to her death...

"This Pakistani Christian woman was arrested and sentenced to death for allegedly  blaspheming against  Islam in 2009.

"Far beyond the borders of her native Pakistan, Asia's story has become an emblem of religious persecution.

"In November  2010, Pope Benedict spoke of his spiritual closeness to her and called for her release.

"This was a wake - up call to Western governments and media, whose silence over the persecution of Christians worldwide adds up to a glaring moral blind-spot..."

That's for sure!! :)

"How to evangelize Hispanic Catholics..."

Leading them astray in Chicago ...

The curse of Padre Gringo ...

Snippet of original by Rey Flores. In The Wanderer, Thursday, January 24, 2013.

In Chicago,"there are at least a couple dozen huge parishes located in Hispanic neighborhoods that almost always have the stereotypical white, liberal pastor.

"Padre Gringo -- insert the name Larry, Tony, Bruce, or Mike here -- with his social justice and Liberation Theology agendas, tends to decide what is most important to his flock.

"It is Padre Gringo who tells his Hispanic parishioners that immigration is the first and foremost social issue that they should be concerned with.

"Never mind all that silliness about  homosexuality or abortion and contraception.

"What is most sad here is that the communities then start to worship the pastor almost more than Jesus.

"The next time you want to lead a rosary at the nearest abortion mill or have a pro - life or pro - family activity at your parish, reach out to some of these parishes ..."

But! Beware!

"You will definitely face opposition by some bishops, pastors, parish staffers, and other so - called leaders in these communities..."

Good points, Señor! :)

For males only? :)

"The Joy of Midlife"

By Michael J. Rayes of The Latin Mass magazine, Christmas 2012.

He is the author of 28 Days to Better Behavior.

"We hear much about the midlife crisis.

"This is when American men reach their 40s and 50s and begin to regret what they missed in life so far.

"They pine for their evaporated youth.

"Typically, the stereotype of this phase of life involves sports cars, adultery and career changes.

"What men need are goals, self - respect, and a solid, loving relationship  with their Creator.

"God gives us joy but does not promise us happiness in this life.

"Sometimes you may simply have to choose to be joyful rather than relying on external circumstances.

"The mature Christian transcends statements such as he made me angry or she makes me happy.

"This transcendent, self - controlled inner joy takes time to develop..."

"Those in midlife are oftentimes ready for this message because they already have decades of experience dealing with externals and realizing that only God can give true peace.

"In your life to this point, you worked for your daily bread and built a family.

"Now, you can realize the importance of peace with God and peace in your other relationships ..."

"Let's put it provocatively: the entire academic curriculum at any institution  of higher learning stands or falls depending ..."

A snippet from the controversial  right - on campus radical Dr. Peter A. Kwasniewski, Professor of Theology and Philosophy's timely article in the Christmas 2012 issue of The Latin Mass magazine.

His rock'em sock'em professorial title edits itself into:

The Source and Summit of the Christian Life: What the Schools of the Great Catholic Religious  Orders  can Teach Us About the Mass.

"As  Saint Augustine says in De Doctrina Christiana -- all study is ordered to understanding the Word of God and only then to communicating it.

"The dedication to study found so plentifully in the Catholic Tradition is ultimately in the service of hearing God's Word with a mind thoroughly prepared to receive it, so that His wisdom becomes ours, and our joy becomes complete.

"Let's put it provocatively: the entire academic curriculum at any institution of higher learning stands or falls depending on whether it opens the ears of its students to the full message of Divine Revelation as delivered by the mouth of the Church's liturgy..."

Hummm ... can't get much more radical than that!! :)

but the desire wasn't mutual ..."

A snippet from Thaddeus J. Kocinski's article We're all Traditionalists Now: The Priority of Praxis to Theoria in the Culture War.

In The Latin Mass magazine, Christmas 2013.

"... As a consequence the girl -- as we know from the text messages she was sending at the time of the incident -- tried to kill herself by driving head - on into a randomly - selected car.

"The girl survived, but the driver in the other car did not.

"She was the mother of three children, one of them a six - year - old girl.

"This seems to me beyond ordinary wickedness.

"It only takes a moment of reflection to recognize the profound evil of this crime, the senselessness of it, its utter banality and absurdity.

"These words don't even do it justice -- even the word evil seems wanting ..."

Good point, Señor! :)

Biblical guidelines to Christian cheerfulness ...

"Start with the fact  that Christianity doesn't deny the reality of evil.

"Rather, it situates it in the context of faith.

"G.K. Chesterton ... Speaking of the doctrine of original sin ... insisted that at bottom it's good news since it means that human beings have misused a good world, and not merely been entrapped into a bad one ...
